This is an annoying bug. Which seems to be associated with HTML documents. I created heading 3 style with numbering. I set Tools, Outline Numbering to 1,2,3 with after )<space>. Everything works fine until I close the file. When I reopen, already numbered Heading 3 styles are fine, but if I create a new line the number is missing. 1) First heading 2) Second heading Third heading created after file close. If I go to Outline Numbering for Heading 3 it is reset to default (no numbering). If I reconfigure it I now get 1) 1) First heading 2) 2) Second heading 3) Third heading created after file close. and I have to manually remove the extra 1), 2), etc.. Thereafter, everything works fine until I close and reopen the file. I have tried to duplicate with with a "clean file" but the Outline Numbering menu item is no longer available.
I'd like to attempt to reproduce it but I prefer to follow the exact same steps as you. Can you describe the exact steps in order to reproduce? Thanks.
Marking as NEEDINFO as we need clear and concise reproducible steps. Assume you're explaining to someone who knows nothing about what you're doing - the simpler the better. Also an attachment in this case may be nice. Once you do this please set to UNCONFIRMED.
Created attachment 113762 [details] sample document showing the bug Attached please find a document which always has this problem. I will resubmit it after "fixing" missing numbering. I use Heading 3 style and set Tools Outline Numbering to 1,2,3,4 and ) (") ") after. I change lines to Heading 3 with <ctlr> 3. As I add more Heading 3s they are correctly numbered. I then save and close the document (it has to be closed). When I reopen, everything looks OK. If I add another Heading 3 line, it is not numbered. If I go to Tools Outline Numbering, it has been reset to the defaults. If I set it back to 1,2,3,4 and ) (") ") after, my "new" Heading 3 line is numbered correctly, but now all the previously numbered now show (for example) 1) 1) This is a heading, 2) 2) This is another heading. I have discovered a workaround: I turn off number through Tools Outline Numbering before closing it, at least that way I do not have to manually delete the extra 1), 2), etc.
Created attachment 113763 [details] Can't open Tools Outline Numbering menu item I promised to show an updated (post bug) version of the document, however, I can no longer open Tools Outline Numbering in the menu anymore even though I am in Print Layout View. This is a new development I encountered when attempting to create a clean document to show the bug and now it has affected my sample document as well. I don't know how to get back the Tools Outline Numbering menu item. Nonetheless, in my other documents I was able to access the Tools Outline Numbering menu item, leading to the problem as described 1) 1) First Heading 3 2) 2) Second Heading 3 3) The Heading 3 item added after closing and reopening the document.
I am just curious - I know you are busy, but are you waiting on me for something? I thought I had changed the status from NEEDINFO and it is back to that so I reset it.
